USPS Tracking Not Updated in a Week

USPS is an amazing mail service that delivers the vast majority of its packages to their intended recipients with very few issues. Unfortunately, things occasionally go sideways. Envelopes and parcels sometimes fall off conveyor belts or get lost in transit and their tracking status ceases to update.

While this is inconvenient it's not necessarily a problem. USPS typically updates its tracking information every 24 hours unless the package is being delivered to a far-away address or a large number of items are being shipped out at once (either in a group, or in a single shipment). In that case, it may take a few days for the tracking system to update.

However, in a very small percentage of cases, the tracking system doesn't update at all or it takes longer than expected to do so. If this happens to you, the best thing to do is to try to track the item again a few hours later, or check in with your local post office to see if they have any additional information for you.

It's also important to note that while USPS does a great job of "batch scanning" different groups of packages, envelopes, and parcels to ensure all of the tracking is updated at once, they can still miss something from time to time. This can happen if a piece of mail is addressed incorrectly or has been misplaced on its way to its destination. Using an address verification API like PostGrid before mailing can help prevent this from happening and speed up the delivery process.
